The SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic - A Utah Perspective
April 25, 2021
The seven day average of new cases of Covid-19 in Utah.
There were a couple of bumps upward this week, but nothing you could call a breakout.
The seven day average of the number of Covid-19 deaths
Surprisingly deaths climbed to 18 this week from 5 last week. I can' think of a reason why this would happen.
Data on the progress of vaccination in Utah

The fully vaccinated among those 18+ climbed to 38.5% from 35.0%, showing a clear decline in upward momentum.
The seven-day average of the number of injections declined from 27,781 last week to 20,252. This is the kind of drop I expected in May.
The state will have to reduce the number of doses being ordered to prevent a real glut of doses on hand. Currently, 304,322 doses are available, near the record high.

Most Recent Week
April 25, 2021

In Utah vaccination moves forward, but clearly declined from the prior week. The 50% level is in sight, but may be difficult to reach. The case count has plateaued just below 390 cases per week. The death count sumped from 5 the prior week to 13 this week.

In Asia, the situation in India is rather scary with 2,3 million new cases. Even at this very high rate, it will take India 6.5 weeks to catch the total of the United States (31.6 million) and the U.S. has a population that is 1/4th that of India. Thailand is in the midst of an outbreak with 13,000 new cases last week. Even China showed a minor bli- up last week. The Phillippines however did improve some;

In Europe, case counts were down again across the board. France continued its dramatic improvement. That's two weeks in a row that all of Europe has improved.

The number of cases in the United States dropped this week to 395,000 cases (56,570/day) down 86,000 from the prior week. Thirty-nine of the fifty states had a decrease in case counts (including Utah). The worst seems over in Michigan as case counts there dropped for the second week. Those where cases rose significantly included: Tennessee Indiana, and Missouri (adjusted).
