Where we go from here largely depends on (1) continued good behavior, (2) increased vaccinations, and (3) little influence from the SARS-CoV-2 mutations
- The countries with the most Novel Corona Virus infections (raw numbers not population adjusted)
- United States 27.6 million up 639,000 but down from 900,000 in the prior week.
- India 10.9 million up 78,000, little changed.
- Brazil 9.4 million up 270,000down slightly
- United Kingdom 4.0 million up 97,000 but down from 128,000 the prior week
- Russia 4.0 million up 100,000 and up from 65,000 the prior week
- France 3.46 million up 72,000 but down from 140,000 the prior week
- Spain 3.05 million up 114,000 but down from 199,000 the prior week.
- Italy 2.72 million up 85100 little changed from the prior week
- Turkey 2.58 million 51,000 little changed from the prior week
- Germany 2.34 million up 50,000 but down from 66,000 the prior week.
- In Asia, both Japan and Thailand are better, while Viet Nam has a noticeable bleep upward.
- In Europe, things were good except Greece had a little blip up.
- The U.S. averaged 91,300 cases per day down from 119,000 cases per day down. We expect to see new death numbers from New York after the nursing home scandal is resolved.
- The U.S. infection rate is 8.40%. If there is a country with a higher rate, that country is not one that I follow.
- Meanwhile, the U.S. death rate stands at 1.96% and leape up from 1.72% the prioor week. It is the lowest of all countries outside Asia (and New Zealand) that I follow.
- The states showing the most rapid increases in the past week - just one Vermont, its elevated rate continues (relative to the few overal cases that state has registered.)
- States with infection rates over 11%: North Dakota (12.9%), South Dakota (12.5%),Rhode Island (11.4%), Utah (11.3%),
- States with infection rates above 10%: Tennessee(10.9%), Arizona(10.9%), Wisconsin(10.4%), Iowa(10.4 %,), Arkansas (10.3%), Nebraska(10.2%) Nebraska(10.2%)
- States with infection rates under 5%: Washington 4.3%, Oregon (3.6%), Maine (3.1%) Vermont(2.2%), Hawaii (1.9%)
- States with death rates over 2%: New York (3.0%), New Jersey (3.0%), Connecticut (2.7%), Massachusetts(2.7%), Pennsylvania (2.5%), Michigan (2.5%), Mississppi (2.2%), Louisiana (2.2%), Maryland (2.0%), Wisconsin (2.0%)
- States with death rates under 1%: Utah (0.50%), Alaska (0.50%), Oklahoma (0.97%).
