The 7-day average of new cases of Covid-19

The infection rate in Utah and much of the United State stopped going down this week as a plateau is formaing at 500 new infections per day.
Where we go from here largely depends on (1) continued good behavior, (2) increased vaccinations, and (3) little influence from the SARS-CoV-2 mutations

Deaths are again showing a slow downtrend.

Data on the progress of vaccination in Utah

Yesterday we reached 1,000,000 doses of the vaccine injected. 11.4% of Utahns are now fully vaccinated.

Most Recent Week

While the United States has now plateaued at a rate of 60,000 new infections per week. Somehow several nations are in the throes of a new spike in infections. Leading the way are France's 167,794 new cases, Italy's 155,656 new cases, and Greece's 16,000 new cases. Data suggests that Germany and Sweden may soon join in this outbreak. In Asia, the Philippines and South Korea both continue to have elevated infection counts. In South America, Brazil again reported MORE CASES than the United States. Brazil rose to #2 in the world in the raw infection count moving India to number 3. It is unclear how the virus variants may be playing a part in these outbreaks.

The countries with the most Novel Corona Virus infections (raw numbers not population adjusted)

United States 29.4 million up 446,554 which was up from 398,690 the prior week.
Brazil 11.4 million up 500,772 up from 421,000 the prior week.
India 11.2 million up 148,000.
Russia claimed the 4th spot with 4.20 million up 80,500, down slightly.
United Kingdom 4.3 million 40,000 but down from 76,000 the prior week.
France 4.1 million up 167,794 down a bit from 216,000 the prior week
Italy took 6th place from Spain. 3.1 million up 155,000 up from 142,000 the prior week
Spain 3.1 million up 34,692 up from a negative adjustment the prior week.
Turkey 2.9 million up 98,973 up from 78,000 the prior week
Germany 2.6 million up 70,000 and up from 58,500 the prior week.

The U.S. averaged 63,,793 cases per day up from 57,000 new daily the prior week.
The U.S. infection rate is 8.94%. If there is a country with a higher rate, that country is not one that I follow.
Meanwhile, the U.S. death rate stands at 1.82%. It is the lowest of all countries outside Asia (and New Zealand) that I follow.
Missouri showed an upward adjustment of 72,949 cases, pushing it to near the 10% level.

States with infection rates over 11%: North Dakota (13.2%), South Dakota (12.9%), Rhode Island (12.3%), Utah (11.8%), Tennessee(11.6%), Arizona (11.4%),
States with infection rates above 10%: Oklahoma (10.9%), Wisconsin(10.7%), Iowa (10.8%)], Arkansas (10.8%), Nebraska(10.6%), Kansas (10.3%), South Carolina (10.4%)
States with infection rates under 5%: Washington 4.6%, Oregon (3.8%), Maine (3.5%) Vermont(2.7%), Hawaii (2.0%)

Death Rates:

States with death rates over 2%: New Jersey (2.9%), New York (2.8%), Massachusetts(2.8%), Connecticut (2.7%), Pennsylvania (2.5%), Michigan (2.5%), Mississppi (2.3%), Louisiana (2.3%), Maryland (2.0%), Alabama (2.0%)
States with death rates under 1%: Alaska (0.51%), Utah (0.55%),
