Note: Reports will be done monthly going forward as the vaccine has brought down the number of cases to an easily manageable level in the U.S. The country is not yet near herd immunity (which is why many states are now offering incentives to be vaccinated). Thus flare-ups are bound to continue moving forward in the U.S. and many other countries where vaccines have been widely distributed.

The 7-day average for new infections dropped to 221 from 273 a significant drop.

Deaths also dropped from 34 deaths the prior week to just 9 this week.

Vaccinations dropped on the 7-day moving average to 11,000 per day from 16,000 per day.

The arrival of new vaccine doses dropped from 18,000 per day to 8,500 per day. Doses on hand dropped from 530,000 to 518,000.

*** Focus on the rest of the World ***

Among the nations, I follow in Western Europe case counts dropped everywhere except the U.K. (where they almost doubled from the prior week) and Russia where there was a small increase.,

In Asia, cases in Japan fell by 30%. Meanwhile in Taiwan where there have been only 8,160 cases for the entire pandemic the number of cases for the week was 4,298 or more than 50% of total cases.

In Thailand, the number of cases dropped by 1,183 to 26,870 for the most recent week. Total cases in Thailand now total 156,370, with 1,012 deaths.

Brazil continues along at a pace of 450,000 cases per week, while in Inda the case count for the week dropped 480,000 to 1.36 million new cases. With four times the population of the United States, India's total number of cases is still below that of the United States by about 5 million.
